I sit here, typing this before work, literally dreading it. While retail is certainly a giant leap from pizza parloring (I just made that verb up), it definitely comes with the downsides. Discounts and cute uniform options aside, it can be pretty stressful.
For those of you who have worked retail before, you will completely understand. For those of you who haven't, I offer some words of wisdom to help you get the best service possible. How's that? By being the best CUSTOMER possible.
1) Don't be rude
While this may seem like common sense to some (I wish), unfortunately it isn't always that common. News flash: Being rude gets you no where! Believe it or not, we are there to help you. Believe it or not, most of us don't work on commission. Yes, obviously we want to make sales - we do want to keep our jobs, after all - but we also want to see you happy! Personally, seeing a client walk out beaming and feeling great is an amazing reward. Please don't make my job harder by being rude to me.
2) Don't act like a ragging tornado
Yes, clothes are there to be looked at. No, they aren't there for you to literally toss around like you are home in your bedroom. Shocking, I know. But in all seriousness, would it hurt to at least leave the discarded clothes where you found them? Or give them to us? We won't be offended. But finding a pair of slacks stashed behind the camis is not a pleasant surprise come closing time.
3) Don't hate us for offering credit cards
We have to ask. I hate it as much as you do. 'Nuff said.
While I could continue to ramble, here is a little video to further explain retail rage (plus, a contest is mentioned....what? yes. yes indeed)
